Georges Hobeika talks about his new GH by Georges Hobeika line and his Signature Collection

Fashion designer Georges Hobeika talks about his sport inspiration for day wear and new high fashion pieces for businesswomen at his Rue Royale showroom. --->

In the middle of Paris fashion week, I decided to take a break from the shows to visit Georges Hobeika’s showroom at Rue Royale, where he was showcasing his very first collection of a new casual day wear line, GH by Georges Hobeika and the newest pieces of his Signature line. To my delightful surprise, the designer himself was there to greet me, and while his imposing presence rendered me nervous, we sat down for a few minutes to talk about these recent additions to his work.
The first thing that caught my eye was the tote bag with “incrusted” baseballs and light colored brogues with a baseball stitch detail. It was obvious where the GH inspiration had come from. The Beirut born designer mentioned he does in fact like sports, such as swimming, horseback riding and baseball of course, even though he doesn’t favor any team in particular.

GH by Georges Hobeika was created since he wanted to do something simpler that would be young and fresh at the same time. The line was presented in a 38-look collection comprising a variety of separates such as shorts, pleated skirts, college blazers and crepe blouses decorated with long strips of fabric across the front. He opted for light materials like linen, crepe, georgette, cotton and poplin without leaving aside the attention to detail and construction that characterizes his work. The colour palette consists of white, light blue, clay and brown. The clothes are instantly wearable and have a fun, leisure-like allure.

Georges Hobeika’s prêt-a-porter line called “Signature Collection” is know for its elegant form flattering evening gowns done with an almost couture finish. Now, he decided not to solely focus on formal wear but to also offer high fashion ensembles suitable for business and cocktail frocks that can work ideally for less formal occasions.

The pieces in the Spring Summer 2012 collection are incredibly modern and chic with eye-catching organic details like beaded backbone shapes adorning the front and back of gowns. Fluid crepe and chiffon dresses and separates were constructed in lime green, dusty pink and classic black and white.

With all of the lovely garments and accessories there, I could not resist the temptation to try something on, so Mr.Hobeika himself helped me put on a gorgeous beaded neckpiece. I wish I could have taken it with me, along with one of those amazing Signature dresses!
In addition to now three distinct collections (Couture, Signature and GH), Hobeika also carries exquisite bridal dresses that evidence impressive draping skills and precious embroideries.

In the future he would like to expand his business to more countries around the world and perhaps eventually launch a perfume. But he’s taking it one day at a time and with so much going on in his atelier now, he’s sure to have a very tight agenda in the time to come.
