Philo has proven to be one of the most
innovative and consistent designers of the moment, if not the most. She delivers season after season elevating her game in every collection.
This is without a doubt one of her best outings to date.
Since her tenure at Céline, she has been setting the
agenda adhering to the stripped-down elegance Ghesquière made so
popular. Simple but not boring or overly minimalist; incredibly
innovative cuts and shapes topped with must-have accessories: tied in
the front
dresses, thigh high second-skin leather boots in muted tones, clutches
with cut out wrist-holes and those fantastic coats with huge
collars. Not to mention the luxury, softness and warmth of the
fabrics: making you want to touch it will make you want to buy it as
well.
Céline's pieces not only have an incredibly novel appeal, they are able
to retain that appeal for many seasons; whereas other designers go for
the overly trendy but "ephemeral" garments, the kind fashion bloggers
and fashionista wanabbes wear to draw attention from street style hunters. Philo creates the clothes women want to wear, those that exude nonchalance without
loosing an ounce of elegance: this is what the french are known for.
Now that Ghesquière is not around on the runways, Philo will
probably be the main got-to girl (not that she already isn't) to see
where fashion is headed.
