I am so glad to finally read an honest review about Balmain AW13 (Jessica Michault for Nowfashion).
I could not believe other respected fashion authorities fail to
mention (or recognize) this looks dated and is a too literal
interpretation of the 80's. I don't see in which universe of the present
time this is a good collection. Yes, the fabrics might have been
exquisite and the execution impeccable (c'mon, Rousteing has the finest
ateliers at his service duh!) but I don't see these clothes going
anywhere other than a delorian ride with Marty McFly back to 1986. I
couldn't help but wonder if the soundtrack was "Can't Touch This" (a
1990 song, but still) and if McHammer would take the bow at the end of
the show. It's obvious that Rousteing is far too young to remember the
80s, otherwise he would have know better than to bring back the Thriller times of Michael Jackson.
Es evidente que Olivier Rousteing, de 27 años de edad, era muy joven en los 80 para acordarse de la época; de lo contrario, no hubiese optado por revivir lo más espeluznante de la moda ochentera. Si bien es cierto que durante esos años la firma tuvo buenos momentos bajo la dirección de Erik Mortensen, Jean Claude Montana y Thierry Mugler marcaron tendencia, y grandes como Giorgio Armani y Jean Paul Gaultier hicieron sus nombres, es descabellado pensar que una regreso tan literal podría traer de vuelta el glamour opulento de aquellos tiempos. Resulta inevitable pensar en el grupo español LOCOMIA cuando se observan las imágenes del desfile ¿Sería la música del show can't touch this?, solo faltó que Mc Hammer saliese al final.
Seguramente expertos como Suzy Menkes, Luke Leitch y la misma Nicole Phelps, quien señala a Rousteing como creador "ropa de fiesta", calificarían estas comparaciones como producto de la ignorancia. Tal vez tengan razón, hay que presenciar en vivo el desfile para evaluar la exquisitez de las telas y la ejecución impecable que menciona Menkes (con esos talleres a la mano esto último se da por sentado ¿no?) Aunque es comprensible la intención optimista del Rousteing, la colección no le hace justicia su talento y mucho menos a los tiempos que vivimos.
